Position Description
Job Title: First Class Lineman (Casey County Area)
Department: Operations
Reports to: Operations Manager
FLSA Wage: Hourly
Purpose of Position
This position is responsible for the performance of skilled maintenance and repair of the electrical distribution and transmission systems in accordance with standard trade practices. Work is frequently performed with high-tension cables and under unfavorable weather conditions, requiring skills and care to protect your life and the lives of others. Most of the work entails routine construction. Incumbents may be assigned to special trouble jobs in which some independent work occurs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforces that all work is performed safely and in accordance with OSHA, DOT, PSC, and TCRECC safety policies
- Performing skilled maintenance and repair of electrical systems, including overhead and underground lines
- Reading and interpreting work orders and drawings to ensure accurate and safe work
- Setting poles and anchors, stringing overhead wire, and installing transformers and related equipment
- Repairs or replaces defective power lines and auxiliary equipment; splices and reconnects broken ends of fallen wires to insulators or installs new replacement wires
- Replaces defective poles by erecting new poles alongside condemned pole and transferring cables and other auxiliary equipment
- Usually work on energized lines involving electrocution hazard and require caution and use of safety equipment
- Performing emergency maintenance and repairs on lines, transformers, and services during and after regular office hours
- Staying updated with safety and protective equipment to ensure a safe working environment
- Communicating effectively with customers and team members to ensure service quality and satisfaction
- Ensure timely updates to the iPad regarding time entries and other communications required by office personnel
- Complete other tasks assigned by management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in electrical line work preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman in the electric utility industry
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, safety procedures, and applicable codes/regulations
- Computer and/or iPad usage preferred
- Possess an advanced ability rational system to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, staking sheets, and system maps
- Proficient in the use of line tools, test equipment, and construction equipment
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Class A or B required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb poles and work at height in all weather conditions
- Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays during emergency situations
- Must pass required physical examinations, drug, and alcohol test, and maintain DOT certification
Work Environment
- Outdoor work environment, subject varying weather conditions
- Exposure to high voltage electricity, noise, and hazardous conditions
- Frequent travel within service territory
