Job Title: Material Handler / Helper
Department: Operations
Reports to: Materials Manager
FLSA Wage: Hourly
Purpose of Position
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, and organizing materials, equipment, and supplies to support daily operations. This position issues materials to line crews, maintains accurate inventory records within the TCRECC inventory management system, and ensures all warehouse inventory is safely stored, labeled, and accounted for to promote efficiency, accuracy, and operational readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforces that all work is performed safely and in accordance with OSHA, DOT, PSC, and TCRECC safety policies
- Purchasing and receiving of materials (poles, transformers, etc.)
- Preparing all necessary paperwork neatly and correctly
- Counting and recording inventory
- Responsible for keeping the warehouse and grounds neat and orderly at all times
- Responds to after-hours outages, storms and emergencies as required
- Promotes teamwork, professionalism, and positive work environment
- Complete other tasks assigned by management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Class A or B preferred
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, safety procedures, and applicable codes/regulations
- Computer and/or iPad usage preferred
- Demonstrate clear verbal and written communication
- Sustain physical effort over long shifts, often in outdoor or outdoor-like conditions, requiring good stamina to avoid fatigue
Physical Requirements
- Operating forklifts or other powered equipment safely
- Frequent lifting and transport work-related materials weighing 50-100 lbs.
- Ability to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays during emergency situations
- Must pass required physical examinations, drug, and alcohol test, and maintain DOT certification
- Prolonged standing and working up/down stairs or uneven surfaces during deliveries, sorting, and site work
- Safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment, including operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling devices
Work Environment
- Outdoor work environment, subject varying weather conditions
- Exposure to high voltage electricity, noise, and hazardous conditions
- Frequent travel within service territory
